How to do hand calculations for a rectangular gas tank under internal gas pressure?

      Hi,

I am performing an static analysis for a closed rectangular gas tank (steel) with 3mm thickness which is exposed to internal gas pressure of 0.08 Mpa.

      Gas tank dimensions are 1400 x 950 x 625 (L x H x W). I need to find maximum deformation and stress values.

Please let me know how to perform hand calculations for the above case for validation purpose.

Note: For FEA simplification,I have took symmetry of gas tank through it length and used midsurface (shell elements) in ANSYS.

      Thanks,

      Naveen

      Hi,

As the formulations for pressure vessels stress(Bending and Membrane) involves numerous factors,I request you to refer ASME section viii Appendix 13 for correct assumptions and formulations.

      Hi Sathya,

Thanks for your response. Can you please share any link to refer ASME section viii Appendix 13?

      Thanks,

      Naveen

      Thank you Sathya.

Whether the calculations metioned in the link is applicable for both small & large deflection theory?

Because in my case, I need to solve through large deflection thoery as the deflection exceeds 0.5*thickness.
