SubscriberHI! I implemented a frictionless contact between surfaces, I wanted to know how this type of contact works, how the stresses and strains are calculated in this situation, if there is a set of equations that regulate the contact. Is there any technical documentation on this matter?Â
Another question, is contact implemented in a transient analysis, in this type of analysis, is the mass matrix calculated at each step or only at the initial step?

Frictionless contact in Ansys Mechanical is characterized by the absence of tangential forces, allowing surfaces to slide over each other without resistance. In the normal direction, surfaces can separate but cannot penetrate each other. This type of contact is useful for simulating well-lubricated interfaces or situations where friction can be neglected. Frictionless contact is considered nonlinear and requires multiple iterations to solve because it allows for gaps (separation) and sliding between the contacting surfaces. It is one of the five contact types available in Ansys Mechanical, the others being Bonded, No Separation, Rough, and Frictional contacts.
