How does one make a sub-structured model for static structural analysis?

      Hello.

I am using ANSYS Workbench and Mechanical (2021), and am performing static structural analysis.

I wish to separate my current model into 2 separate models at a convenient interface. The top part is loaded and constrained by body-ground springs. The lower part will use the displacement results of the top part at the interface as loading, and be constrained to the ground. Based on these results, I desire to update the springs' stiffness, and then iterate the process.

My issue is that the current model is using all RAM, and that the model needs refinement in certain areas, which will require more memory. I am familiar with this principle for modal analysis (super elements/Craig-Bampton method), but not in relation to structural analysis.

If this is possible through parametrization, please give me some hints of how to succeed, as I am currently out of ideas, since I am using solid elements.

      Thanks in advance.

      KR Chris.

      Hi

Can you approximate some parts with beam elements and then connect those to the main model of interest?

Or can you have an initial coarse model and then use submodelling to look on an area of interest which has a refined mesh.

      All the best

Hi Erik Unfortunately I cannot do this, since the model has a complex geometry, contacts, and pre-tensioned bolts. Also, the model-refinements cannot be easily localized in the traditional manner.

      Hi

That is fine. So I would suggest
See perhaps with the University and the local account manager on how you can use HPC for your project.
Another thing is that condensed parts (super elements) is available as a beta option in static structural so you can explore that perhaps also.

You would need beta options activated to see that:

      Hope this helps
