How can I get the interlaminar shear stress from a composite model?

      Hello guys,

I have modeled a composite pressure vessel with ACP. The interlaminar shear stress between plies is what I want to get from the static structural analysis, but I am wondering how to get the value.

If I let compute the shear stress (by simply using the function in the figure) on the surface between the plies, is that the interlaminar shear stress? If it is wrong, how can I get the interlaminar shear stress?

I really appreciate if you guys can help me

Thanks for the query. Interlaminar shear stress is the shear stress that is at the top or bottom of a specified ply (essentially at the interface) and has the coordinate system in the fiber/matrix orientation.
So, in mechanical, you don't need to scope to a surface, you can right click on the ply in the tree (under Imported Plies), and insert the shear stress. Then you need to specify orientation to be the desired component, so for example I have picked XZ for the out of plane interlaminar shear stress. The final key is that the coordinate system should be set to Fiber Coordinate System. Here the coordinate system is aligned with the fiber angle of the ply.
BTW, when post processing a shell element and the position is set to top/bottom (default), when the top of the shell is visible, the contour of the element face will reflect the values of the top. If you rotate the model, and the bottom of the shell is visible, the contour of the element face will reflect the values of the bottom.
Please try this and let us know. Thank you!
      Regards Sean
