SubscriberI have a case of unequal reversed loading of a spur gear tooth and am trying to calculate safety factor.Â
For example: 80Nm torque in clockwise direction and 20Nm torque in counter clockwise direction. Â
I am reporting peak max principal stress value from the tooth root in the 80Nm CW direction to use as max for mean and alternating calculation, but what should I select for the min, considering that loading in the CCW (opposite) direction? Â
Should it be the max or min principal of the tooth root that is in tension for the CCW?
Should it be from the node that is mirrored about the tooth centerline from the 80Nm CW case to the 20Nm CCW side? or just the peak value on the CCW side?

Calculate the range at a given node. Plot the vector principal stress at the node and see the direction of the stress. Choose the stress combination which will give maximum stress range.
