Fluid Solid Interaction

Hi, I’m trying to model a fluid–structure interaction with impact. For the structure I’d like to use LS-DYNA (or Mechanical Explicit Dynamics), and for the fluid I’m using Ansys Fluent. However, I don’t see an option to connect these solvers through Workbench System Coupling.

      • Is LS-DYNA (or Explicit Dynamics) supported in System Coupling with Fluent?

      • If not, what workflows are recommended for high-speed impact FSI (e.g., using Mechanical Transient Structural instead, or alternative coupling methods)?

      Hi

That is not possible it seems at the moment.

As you said Transient 2way coupling to Fluent is possible. Or:

USe either ICFD + FSI or S-ALE.

You can try the DUALCESE solver in LSDYNA.  This solves the conservation laws (for a compressible fluid) using the Conservation Element and Solution Element (CESE) technique along with the regular solver for the structural component.  You can find FSI examples at https://lsdyna.ansys.com/knowledge-base/cese/.  The following is stated at the link "In LS-DYNA, it is extended to solve fluid-structure interaction problems ..."

Thanks for your response. Actually, I’m planning to model a shear-thickening fluid under impact loading. Which simulation module would you recommend?
