SubscriberHi folks,Â
I'm having some issues with having two fluid domains and thermal flow. The model is supposed to be a datacentre, with the stacks as one domain and the room is the other. However, I need the stacks to have an inlet and outlet to represent a fan that would be used; The problem is the walls between the stack and room domain are automatically coupled by ansys, and if I remove these coupled walls and change the boundary condition, there's no thermal flow occuring between to the two domains (since they're no longer coupled). Is there any way to solve this?
Â
The purple shows the stacks, the pink is the room, and I've shown how the inlet and outlet should work.Â
Â
Thank you!

Forum ModeratorYou need to separate the four edges (of each section) and then change one or other side to "fan" and the other to "interior": assuming you're starting from a wall & wall:shadow pair.Â

SubscriberHi Rob,Â
How do I seperate the four edges? I'm unsure where to do this.Â
Thank you so much !

Forum ModeratorHave a look at Named Selections in Meshing. Just avoid calling the edge(s) inlet/outlet or anything containing those terms. It's possible to split in Fluent too, but probably safer in Meshing.Â

SubscriberHello again Rob!
I've named the edges something along the lines of top, bottom, right, etc, but I've seen two different selections when clicking on the line - Should I name both selections?Â
Thank you!

If you're using DesignModeler create a multibody part. The edges need to be common to both volumes/surfaces.Â

SubscriberOkay, I believe I've fixed that! My named selections are named something on the lines of Top, Bottom, so what do I do now?
Thank you so much for all your help!

Forum ModeratorOK, now mesh the model. Once you're in Fluent have a look at the boundary condition options to see what makes sense (fan and interior may be a good starting point). If the smaller volumes are lumps of computer you may want to label the cell zones too so you can add energy sources etc. Â
