Fluent has no response after setting periodic boundary condition (interface)

      Hi,

I was trying to set a periodic boundary condition by setting interface.

Picture below is my model which has a solid part(Blue MESH) with holes on it and the fluid part, the periodic direction I expected to be, which is a linear periodic boundary condition.

The problem is, I was able to set most of the interfaces as periodic-matching interface except the interfaces in the second and third picture , which are fluid and solid part, respectively.

Check the periodic bc limitations in the manual, there are two linked sections. You can only have one set of conditions, and from memory that can't be a solid zone.

      Hi, Rob
Thanks for the reply Yes, I've figure out that I could only specify one direction in Periodic condition, however, it is able to specify multiple non-parallel planes as periodic interface. Picture below is the interface that can not be set as periodic interface before, which is set well now.
I've solved the problem by rename the interface name with "per_name" in Ansys meshing and reset all the interfaces, although I'm not sure if there are something to do with this problem.
Anyway, now I have all of the interfaces the periodic type, however, due to the limitation of direction, I think I'll use symmetry boundary condition to ignore the effect in specified direction.

      Thanks Eric

Yes, I was discussing this with a colleague earlier. Given you can (we think) have cyclic and translational periodic in the same model we think it's an intentional setting. Doesn't make it easy to explain why you can't though! Remember the solids can't be "periodic".
