Fluent adjoint solver; constant camber line constraint

      Hi everyone,

      I am studying the shape optimization of a 3D wing using Fluent's adjoint solver.

      I have a design condition that the wing camber line must remain constant while optimizing.
      Can anyone tell me how to apply this constraint?

      I have already checked the 'design conditions' tab in adjoint solver options. But I am not sure how to use them to get it done.

      What do you mean by you want the camber line to remain constant? If camber line cannot be modified (which will happen if you change the shape of the wing), then the drag/lift optimization will be limited. What is your end goal?

        The goal is to optimize the shape of the wing, which ultimately leads to increased lift or reduced drag. The final optimized wing has improved increased lift and reduced drag, but the wing sections have gonacon airfoils and are different from the original wing geometry airfoils.

        My goal is for the optimized wing to have the same airfoils as the original wing at different cross sections.

      You can create clip surfaces or volume expression surface for the chordline and then fix it in Design Conditions.

        I don't know how to create Clip Surfaces or Volume Expression Surface for Camber line of the wing?
        I have been stuck on it for a long time. I will be grateful if you help me.

      Create a plane across the wing at the lcoation of the camber line using the Create Plane option. While creating the plane, give a dimension larger than the wing, but smaller than the domain and also select "bounded" option. This will create a surface in the shape of the wing at the camber line. You can then refer to my previous suggestions to fix it. Refer the below links for more information.

        The wing camber line is not a straight line but a curve. The plane is a straight surface, and how can it be placed on the camber line that is curved?
