flow+fracturing simulations

Rocky's SPH+DEM combination seems to be a powerful tool for fluid-structure interactions. Can it be used to solve the following problem?

A thin layer of liquid sits on a rigid substrate, with one of its faces exposed to air. A brittle sphere impacts the substrate. As the sphere moves, it may touch the substrate and fracture while interacting with the liquid. Can Rocky's SPH+DEM coupling handle such a problem? The flow of air is unimportant, and the flow of liquid may be considered incompressible.

      Thank you very much!

      Hello Rui,

this scenario can be simulated by SPH-DEM in Ansys Rocky with breakage enabled. You can check on Rocky Tutorial 25 to learn more about SPH-DEM setup, and on Rocky User Manual to get insights about particle breakage.

Feel free to reach out and continue asking your questions here.

      Best regards,

      Lucas
