Fiber orientation

      Hello,

I have a question about the fiber orientation in Ansys Workbench and applying the different material properties according to the fiber direction. I have an irregular zigzag shape that has different widths in various locations ( I attached the geometry). How can I apply different fiber directions? when I used the element orientation, It applied according to one edge (upper edge or lower edge) and I am not sure about the orientation of elements inside the geometry. I was wondering if I can use the user-defined elements so that I can apply different properties to each element. But I am not familiar with programming software. Please help me how can do this.

      Hello Mahzad,

Defining the fiber reference direction (0o fiber direction) can be done easily with ACP (Ansys Composite PrepPost) and edge-wise rosettes (coordinate system):

The fiber orientation for elements inside the geometry will follow the edge-wise rosette as well. You can plot fiber reference geometry to double check the orientation for all elements.

There is a course on ACP on the Ansys Innovation Space (AIS):

Do you have access to the Ansys Learning Hub (ALH)? If so, there are courses on how to use ACP:

Let me know how it goes.

      Reno.
