FDTD Far Field Projection Results units for x and y

      I recorded the farfield monitor of a source, and the default result is in polar coordinate which makes sense. However, I am not to familar to converting that to x and y plot. It looks liether is such built in option for the monitor to choose x any plot instead, and export the image. The question is what is the unit of the x and y for the x y plot? It looks like it always end at +- 1? I would like to know the total amount of dispered mode in the far field regime and need that impoortant information. There are 200 points in each axis from the raw data.

      Hi Nathan,

      ux and uy are the direction cosines. So, they are unitless. This article: Understanding direction unit vector coordinates in far field projections  will help you understand how the spherical to direction cosine conversion is performed. Please have a look and let me know if you have any questions.

      Thanks for the information. So the 200 points in the E2 data in the x and y direction gives the resolution, as there is a total distance of 2 for 200 points. 

       

      I do not see the conversion to go from the unit vector coordinates from the 2D E2 data to the far field retangular projection with the projected mode. How would I find that?

      Sorry, I didn't understand the question fully. You mean the ux and uy values in the resulting datasets?
