Export the result of the simulation as CAD geometry

Hello all, I tried a simulation in LS-Dyna to twist some wires. Is there a way to export this model to a iges oder step file for further use in other simulation software which cannot read a keyword file? The problem is that due to the meshing the geometry is not recognized.

      Hi

Yes mesh is not geometry (iges ..).

For using LSPP, use the below (iges or step is of course not possible – stl is possible and that can go perhaps into another software, e.g., SpaceClaim, to perhpaps generate an iges or step there):

      In LS-PrePost, do the following:
      • 1. Using the animation controls, display the state to output

      • 2. From menu, go to FEM/Post/Output

      • 3. Select a format (Keyword, Movie BYU, Nastran, STL, etc.)

      • 4. Select Active Parts Only or Entire Model

      • 5. Select desired data (Element, Nodal Coordinates, etc.)

      • 6. Click Current to select the currnet defomed state

      • 7. Click Write (pops up file selection dialog)

      • 8. Enter output file name and click OK.

        All the best

        Erik

For Workbench LS-Dyna one can click (right mouse button) on the deformed results and choose Export -> STL.

If you need more help on a specific model you can create a ACSS support request and we will try and help - or ask the Ansys account manager

something like this is way easier done inside a CAD program by using parametric sketches if you just want a stress-free state.

If you want a stressed-state, then you would have to start with a stress free state anyways.    LSPP has ways to do these twist mesh thing but in my opinion it's not the best place to start a stress-free state.

I know I should offer Dyna related suggestion here but ls-dyna is a hammer but not everything has to be a nail.   There are just better ways to use other tool or a combination of other tools to accomplish a goal.
