To whom it may concern, I want to model the following problem (Braced cuts) in Ansys, 2D-Plane strain mode. Could you help me to clarify the following topic by checking my answer, please: Concrete piles (Ec=2e7 KPa) have 1m diameter and spacing 3m (center to center). I want to model the piles with a PLATE element in 2D-Plane strain mode. What is the equivalent thickness of the PLATE element?

Hi,
I think your plane strain assumption is not correct in this situation.
In plane strain condition, the out of plane strain are considered negligible and hence are assumed to be zero. In FEA, the out of plane or through thickness strain has to be made zero. This is done by assuming the thickness of 2D element large enough (mathematically infinite) that any strain in thickness is negligible. The idea is that the component is large enough in thickness that any stain in thickness can be neglected.
Please correct me or elaborate you question for better understanding.
