Hello,

I am trying to optimize length and width of a 1*2 MMI using Mode EME solver. I would like to custom define figure of merit extracted from the ::model::EME::user s matrix, I don't seem to be able to define it in the optimization box. I want to optimize the highest transmission for S21 and the lowest one for the other s components but in the opyimization box I can just choose the whole S_matrix that gives me an empty plot.

I would appreciate it if you could help me.

Hi Fatemeh,

The in-built optimization tool in Lumerical allows you to optimize just a single value. So, you wont be able to optimize the whole matrix/multiple values. There are a couple of ways to address this. If you want to have the highest transmission for S21, what you can do is add a few lines of code to extract this result from EME in the Anaysis script of "model". Then create |S21|^2 as a result which can be fed into the Optimization tool to be maximized.
