Dear all,Â
I am currently running a 2D transient CFD simulation on a bridge deck for investigating VIV (vortex induced vibration) in ANSYS FLUENT. I would like to extract the displacement, velocity, and acceleration (vertical and angular) data of the bridge deck caused by the air flow. Is there any way to do that? Whether through GUI or UDF?Â

Hello Audy,Â
are you using 6DOF model to account for the movement of the bridge? If so, you have the option to Write Motion History when setting up the 6DOF properties. 13.6. Using Dynamic Meshes (ansys.com) (See 13.6.5 Six DOF Solver Settings)

Thank you Federico. Yes I used 6DOF solver. I already figured out that I could get the displacement data from the motion history. However, the data doesn't contain acceleration and angular acceleration of the mesh zone. Is it possible to get that data from FLUENT or perhaps do I have to set up some sort of numerical algorithm using Runge-Kutta or Newmark-beta to calculate the acceleration?Â

Hello Audy,Â
yes, correct, you should be able to get those quantities from the time and velocity data using a third party calculator
