I cannot install the latest version of Discovery (2021R1.6_WINX64). I just uninstalled DISCOVERY_STANDARD_2019R1_WINX64. I was able to install SPACECLAIM_2021R1_WINX64 however

      Hello Paul Bosomworth

Did you encounter any error while installing Discovery? Just to confirm, did you first unzip the installation files and then executed the setup.exe in administrative mode? Can you please share some detailed information about the issue that you are facing?

Naresh Patre "Did you encounter any error while installing Discovery?"

        No. Nothing seemed to happen.

"Just to confirm, did you first unzip the installation files and then executed the setup.exe in administrative mode?"

        Yes

"Can you please share some detailed information about the issue that you are facing?"

Well, the installer is not launching.

I get the Windows alert "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" I click "yes", the alert disappears as expected and then nothing happens

      Hello Paul Bosomworth

Since the installer is not launching, I suspect that it might be getting blocked. Can you try temporarily disabling Firewall, Antivirus and then try executing the setup.exe again?

      Hi Naresh,

I was able to install the software today. I just cleaned out any references to Ansys on my hard disk and Registry, downloaded the installer again, and installed as a administrator. I'm not sure if the unzipped files were corrupted on my first attempt or if cleaning out the registry etc. helped.

However, it does not seem to be working correctly. I cannot see any models on the screen: I tried importing my own SpaceClaim files and the "Start Interactive Tour" bracket. I have attached a screen shot of the "Start Interactive Tour" bracket not displaying.

During installation it was suggested that I install the license manager but I have a subscriber license. I did try installing the license manager however, but I get the same result. So I removed the license manager service in Regedit.

There was also an ANSYS Geometry Interfaces option. I installed this but I still get the same problem.

I then tried your suggestion of turning off the firewall and antivirus software. Still no luck.

To summarize, in my final attempt, I did this:

      1. removed the license manager service in Regedit

      2. turned off firewall and antivirus software

      3. installed Discovery and SpaceClaim (not ANSYS Geometry Interfaces) as an administrator

After installation, I did the GPU check and got the following information:

The Discovery Compatibility Checker results are as follows:

Graphics device is compatible with Discovery.

      GPU Information:

GPU 1: NVIDIA Quadro P4200 with Max-Q Design

      Hello Paul Bosomworth

A few users had reported this black screen issue and the cause of this was identified to be the NVIDIA driver version (457.77, or the entire 45x.xx driver series in some cases), which is working on some machines, but for some machines, it does not work. A workaround for this will be to revert back to the older driver version (426.78). Can you revert back to the older driver version and check again?

        Naresh Patre Hi Naresh,

I thought I had the latest NVIDIA driver because my Lenovo laptop is supposed keep system files up to date. Anyway, it turns out I had NVIDIA driver 452.66 installed. I went to the NVIDIA website and downloaded the current driver for my system (462.31). Lo and behold, Ansys Discovery works fine now!

Thank you so much, problem solved.

        Cheers,

        Paul
