Creating symmetric, uniform mesh on circular c/s

      Hi

I want to create a symmetric mesh across the circular cross-section. I am using Workbench meshing to mesh a pipe of some length. What shall I do.  The elements are not symmetric across the face as of now. What can be done? I have attached the picture of the mesh.

      Thanks

With pave it's virtually impossible, and whilst there are a few tricks in Fluent they're generally not worth the effort. Why have you split the pipe like that and why do you need a symmetric mesh?

As an aside, you're also looking at a cut through the cells. In the cut plane panel look for a blue-ish triangle, clicking that should show the whole cell on the cut layer.

You can try Mapped mesh instead of Pave, but again, this won't guarantee a "symmetrical" mesh.

Another option is to break up the inlet into even smaller faces to have more guiding lines, but again as Rob said, why would you need this? Might not be worth the effort

Hi, thanks. I am trying to create two inlets one for air and one for water at the inlet. SO i need atleast 2 faces, thats why i have divide in to several sections. If i divide it into just 2 sections then the mesh is coming even more distorted. I have used multizone and face meshing with that. Are you talking about this? How to use mapped mesh? it is same as face meshing right?

Are you going to be using VOF? If so you might want to read up on the open channel options.

Yes i am using VoF in OpenFOAM. But for that i am creating the mesh and geom in ansys and converting to openfoam format.

Mapped means you can force a cartesian mesh that may be more likely to be symmetrical. However as the Ansys tools don't need this it's not functionality we've prioritised.

But can i use mapped mesh on my geometry in ansys workbench? and how to use it

Yes, look at the surface meshing options.

I have used multizone and uniform in surface mesh method and have got this type of mesh. Face meshing isnt making it any better. Is there any way to improve the uniformity of the mesh. Attached is the picture.

You can adjust the edge sizing, but think about how you'd bend a square into a circle. Something's going to get very distorted. You could try a butterfly mesh or O-grid; that's old school meshing and I've not bothered doing that in about 20 years.

      Okay thanks
