SubscriberThat “IS” the question. There is no right value. It is dependent upon the grid, the equations being solve, etc. It is not the end-all-be-all that people try and make it. We also have to use monitor points to determine whether our solution is converged or not. For example, I am currently simulating the flow through a chemical reactor. If I look at the residuals for the equations, I often have residuals 1E-7 or lower. But if I look at the mixture fraction at the exit, it is not converged. So do not put all your eggs in the residual basket.
It is important to remember what the residuals are. It is the difference between the two sides of the equation. We want these to be zero, but they never will. We typically solve until our residuals have leveled out and where the monitor points we have created are also stationary between iterations.
