We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Collisions in LS-DYNA

I've been running simulations in LS-DYNA with buckling fibers, but I have run into an issue where the buckled fiber passes through itself.

In the picture on the right, the structure seems to be passing through itself. I am wondering which settings I can use to reduce/eliminate this issue. Below are the keywords I have for contact:

      Hello,

The structure self-contact should be handled by *CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_SINGLE_SURFACE. Please see if the structure part is included in that contact. Please try using this option in *CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_SINGLE_SURFACE card SOFT = 2, SBOPT =3 and DEPTH = 5.

Let us know how it goes,

The structure part is included in that contact, as is everything else in the model. I also have those settings for CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_SINGLE_SURFACE already set, so those don't seem to be the issue. I'm thinking maybe I should run the simulation with a lower impactor velocity?
