SubscriberWhat are the differences between HFSS Characteristic mode solver and Eigen mode solver ?
And , what are the differences between Characteristic mode and Eigen mode for an antenna ? (I used to know they are same)

Hi Fparveen,
Thanks for posting your queries on learining forum !
The Characteristic mode analysis (CMA) in Ansys HFSS is a feature used to gain physical insight into the current patterns that can exist on an antenna and the platform upon which it operates. This analysis is valuable for design engineers as a first step toward achieving correct antenna placement on electrically medium-sized structures.
CMA differs from eigenmode analysis in that it specifically calculates the characteristic modes of a structure, which can be metal or dielectric. It reports the number of modes, characteristic angle and current, modal significance and quality factor, and the voltage per port based on edit sources weighting.
In contrast, eigenmode analysis is typically used to find the natural resonant frequencies of a structure without the presence of external sources. It is more general and not specifically tailored to antenna design like CMA.Thanks,
