CFD tutorial for flow around ships using ANSYS fluent

      Hi, I am fairly new to ANSYS (I've looked at a LOT of sources and tutorials) and want to simulate flow around a boat hull while also acquiring useful data (drag, straight line ability of my boat, and maneuverability) so I can optimize my boat. I still have no clue as to how to do this and how I can get data from it. My general method is to create 2 groups (air and water) and have those volumes be cut in by the shape of my boat (I'll have empty space where the boat should go). From here I have no idea what to do. I have consulted these sources:

      I've been using VOF to simulate air and water, but I really have no idea what plugging in certain numbers and options does. I would really appreciate it if someone could reference me to a definitive tutorial for this. I've been trying to figure this out for a month now to no avail. Should I even use the fluent option?

      Short answer is yes, Fluent is the correct tool. 


      Have a look in the documentation for the Open Channel Flow (it's a special option for VOF), and take it from there. For simplicity I'd suggest fixing the ship in place rather than trying to move it!

      you will need to use 6 DOF model in order to simulate this model with the open channel and wave model (VOF). It is doable. I will try to make a tutorial about it soon! Briefly, the boat will have to be assigned as a rigid and it should be surrounded by a sphere or a box that will deform, the whole lot will need separate UDF files to assign their moment of inertias.

      There are many tut available online for vof in fluent. I would say start with 2D.

      By fixing it in place do you mean I should have my boat be cut into my volume domain or that my boat should exist inside of the domain as a separate body?

      Hola , solucionaste el problema? tengo que hacer lo mismo , simular la estabilidad del buque , tengo pensado en hacerlo con VOF y malla dinamica aplicando el modelo 6dof , voy por buen camino? agradecería sus comentarios
