We have an exciting announcement about badges coming in May 2025. Until then, we will temporarily stop issuing new badges for course completions and certifications. However, all completions will be recorded and fulfilled after May 2025.

Carbon Fibre local stresses

I have to analyse local loads on a carbon fibre panel. I executed the run but I cannot plot the stress of each layer. The software plots just the mean stresses (Von Mises, Tresca...) but not the one of each layer I need.

I used MAT054 to define the mat properties and then Part-Composite for the layer layout [0/90/+-45]_2

      Hello,

Have you set MAXINT in *DATABASE_EXTENT_BINARY to the number of layers in your layup to output results for each through the thickness integration point?

You can also set CMPFLG=1 in *DATABASE_EXTENT_BINARY to write stress and strain results in the material coordinate system.

Have a look at the following 2 presentations on composites in LS-DYNA:

      https://ftp.lstc.com/anonymous/outgoing/support/FAQ_kw/composites/mat_comp.pdf

      https://ftp.lstc.com/anonymous/outgoing/support/PRESENTATIONS/lsprepostcomposite.pdf

Let me know how it goes.

      Reno.

Thank you very much Reno, now I'm able to plot the local stresses 👍

Great! Thanks for letting us know.

For the benefits of others: once you have set MAXINT in *DATABASE_EXTENT_BINARY, you can post-process the results in each layer by looking at the IPt results in LS-PrePost and selecting the appropriate integration point number:
