Can we choose material and core radius of optical fiber in Interconnect?

      I am using Lumerical Interconnect

      1 - I am wondering is there any way to choose matrial refractive index, core radius, cladding properties of an optical fiber?

      2 - How can I get envelope of the following intensity? At input I am using gaussian pulses and this is output spectrum of a fiber. (I want to see SPM)

      A1: sorry, no. INTERCONNECT is a circuit/system tool, and it only needs the component's performance parameters. Only the component design solvers, such as FDTD, FDE, varFDTD, EME etc will need the physical properties of the components/devices.

      A2: Not sure if some concepts are mixed up:

       gaussian pulses, in my understanding, is the time signal;

      " envelope of the following intensity" is the frequency-domain result. It is discrete, piece-wise, so you may extract the envelop using a script or 3rd party tool.

      "SPM": do you mean "self phase modulation"?  I think this is nonlinear result, right?

      Thank you for getting back to me on this.

      1 - Is there any direct way of seeing any variation? For example, if choose a smaller wavelngth than the optical fiber's operating wavelength, it would be a multimode fiber?

      2 - Yes, SPM is self phase modulation and these are the resutls for nonlinear case.

      A1: you will need to use FDE or FEEM to analyze the mode properties.

      A2: I am not sure if INTERCONNECT can simulate such nonlinearity, as I did not find such example or description online.

      1 - Can you please tell me how can I measure mode profile at the input using monitors?

      2 - It seems like it is working, and it is giving correct results if we consider the envelope of the whole thing. I couldn't find any example for nonlinearity as well.

      If you have import the mode profile in INTERCONNECT, you will be able to check it. Otherwise you will need to use FDE or FEEM to characterize the mode proerties. INTERCONNECT is not designed to do such things. However it can show whatever your input.
