AdministratorCan someone please tell me where do we use the Weber number? I know that we can calculate it using the formula:
We = rho*v^2*l/sigma, where We = Weber number, rho = density, v = velocity of fluid, l = char. length scale, and sigma is the surface tension.
However, I am not able to understand where this number can be used?

The Weber number is the ratio of the deforming inertial forces and the stabilizing cohesive forces acting on liquids that are flowing through a fluid medium. Physically, it represents the relative importance of the fluid's inertia compared to its surface tension. One critical application of Weber number is in the area of spray atomization. Weber number is often used to characterize the atomizing quality of a spray, and the droplet size in emulsions.
