Bolted Connection – Asymmetrical Results from a Symmetrical Connection

      Hello everyone!

This is my second post about this problem, since only one person answerd the other post with links to things I already had seen.

I am currently working on my final thesis project, focusing on a splice connection that uses only inner plates and bolts. The issue I'm facing is that the ANSYS results for the bolts are asymmetrical between the reference scope and the mobile scope. This is unintended, as I am looking for perfectly symmetrical results.

I modeled the bolts as beams to streamline the process, given that I have numerous configurations to analyze. However, this error is persisting.

Additionally, when I analyze individual bolts using beam probes, bolts that should yield identical or at least very similar results are showing significant discrepancies.

Can anyone help? I’ve checked the links provided in my previous post, watched several videos, and gone through lessons, but I still can't identify what is wrong.

Please let me know if you need any additional information to better understand what is happening; I am happy to answer any questions and share whatever is necessary!

The following images show the standard connection to which I am comparing my own model. Even in this standard case, the results are not symmetrical, as can be seen. I am also including an image showing how the bolts were defined, for you to better understand.

      Best regards,

      Dinis Cunha
