Ansys workbench, cannot checkout licenses.

      Hi

We're having problems with all new installations of Ansys. This issue only affects recent intallations.

We have a bunch of computers where we installed Ansys last year, and all of them work. Any new installs cannot check out the licenses.

We're using exact same version of ansys as we used last year, which is silently installed.

We already ruled out networking/firewall issues.

Client comptuers have Ansys 2023 R2 installed.

Upon launching eg Ansys Workbench, we're getting error:

"Connection timed out while reading data.
The application has stopped waiting for a reply.
The license server may be experiencing a high demand or a temporary outage. Try again later."

Our licensing server is running Ansys License Manager 2024 R2.

We're stuck and not sure how to start troubleshotting this.

      Any help is appreciated,

      Lukasz

This worked for all our 2023 R2 installations. Thank you!

The only app left that still has this issue is Ansys Workbench 2024 R2 which is odd, all other apps check out the licenses fine.

      Hi Lukasz,

v2024R2 throws any other error besides connection timed out?

I didn't realize, after the fix we applied the error for workbench upon launch is a bit different now:

"Workbench could not connect to a valid licensing server.
Review your license configuration in the Ansys Licensing Settings application and make sure you are connected to a valid network."

Then the application opens just fine, but it's missing features.

May I know which all features it's missing?

This is not a student version correct?

If it's an academic version then can you please goto Current Release, download and install service pack as an admin. This issue is resolved with SP3.

It's academic version. Let me give it a try.

I also retested connectivity to the licensing server. It seems ok.

Is there anything else you can suggest?

Do you have any other version installed? if yes then please follow the below suggestion:

      Go to ' C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v242\Framework\bin\Win64' and rename 'Ans.Core.Components.dll' to 'Ans.Core.Components.dll.old'
      Copy the Ans.Core.Components.dll from C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v2xx\Framework\bin\Win64\ (working version) and paste it to  ' C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v242\Framework\bin\Win64'

I copied it from v232 to v242. I'm not sure if mixing versions is ok, however I got Unhandled exception upon launching Workbench.

Is there any debug logging that can be enabled on server and/or client side to see if there's anything there?
