The Ansys Innovation Space website recently experienced a database corruption issue. While service has been restored there appears to have been some data loss from November 13. We are still investigating and apologize for any issues our users may have as a result.

ANSYS WORK BENCH – THERMAL STEADY STATE + STRUCTRUAL ANLYSIS

      Dear Experts,

I am running a subject FE model having 5 million nodes (1 million elements) and facing memory shortage issues as per below error. I optimized mesh and cannot go below to 1 million elements due to result accuracy.

      *** ERROR *** CP =     671.688   TIME= 23:25:31
An input/output error has occurred on the process with MPI Rank ID = 0. This error occurs when trying to open a file with length = 110 GB.     Please check to make sure there is enough free disk space in the working directory.

      My Machine Configuration as below:

RAM 128 GB + 4 cores (I have also tried with and without "distributed" option also).

Available virtual memory - 130 GB

      Paging file - 19GB.

Work Space memory - 1 GB

      Data Space memory - 2GB

Solver handler - My Computer with 4 cores ( i did not select for My Computer background as i have only one ANSYS Licence)

I have tried with direct / Iteration solver method having 100 sub steps. But No sucess. Is Iteration solver will consume less memory size ?. please advise.

Please give light on how to fix this error. Also give some clarity on requied RAM size , Work space / Data Space memory size, Paging file size and virtual memory size for solving these size of FE model in general  as i am not much familiar to this settings / details.

      Thank you in advance.

      Regards

      AE.

Check your C: drive where the temp directory of Ansys is located, and see if it has enough space. You can also change the location to D: drive if you prefer and if it has a SSD (preferably, not mandatory), and more free space as compared to C: drive. /forum/forums/topic/change-the-location-of-disk-where-temporary-files-are-written
