November 14, 2020 at 4:48 pmmeljinSubscriberHellonI am working with ANSYS fluent for my simulations. I am running the simulations using a supercomputing cluster. Currently each simulation utilizes one ANSYS license. The below are my concerns,n1) Can a single simulation be run using multiple licenses which would speed up the simulation. n2) Currently I am able to run each simulation with 16 processors. But when I increase it to 32, the error message says, insufficient licenses (though I have multiple licenses). Is this limit on processors set by ANSYS?nthank you n

November 16, 2020 at 12:17 pmRobForum ModeratorThe licence manager gives you solver (head node) and parallel with 16 cores on the Academic licence. This is for one task of Fluent. If you have additional parallel packs you can increase the number of cores you're running on, KAUST hold the record with a few hundred thousand cores. Additional solver licences mean you can run many different cases at once (with parallel too assuming you have licences for that too). nFor example, on my laptop I have a licence that will let me run 10 Fluent tasks each with 12 cores parallel (I have 10 parallel packs). Or I can run 5 Fluent tasks with 36 cores parallel (2 packs per solver) or 1 Fluent task with (I think) 2097156 cores (10 packs on the one solver). Note, my laptop isn't that powerful!Using additional packs will depend on your campus licence, your supervisor and/or IT should be able to help with that. n

November 16, 2020 at 6:32 pmmeljinSubscriberHellonI must admit that I am new to cluster and computing terminologies. Could you please let me know what a parallel pack is? What we have here is ANSYS Academic Research CFD (25 tasks) which is the number of licenses.nSo say for example I have 64 cores and 4 licenses (ANSYS Academic Research CFD). And I want to run one fluent simulation by splitting the simulation into 4 parts, each part using 16 cores, and each part consuming one license? In effect, this would mean all 4 licenses and 64 cores are utilized by one simulation. How can this be done? Should I check with IT here?nthank youn
