Hello,

I recently tried to install ANSYS and ANSYS Electromagnetics on HPC. I think I was able to successfully install ANSYS but when I try to run a workbench project file (*.wbpj), I keep getting an error that basically says " Framework error caught: Fatal error: An unexpected error has occured. SyntaxError: unexpected token '<'. I have attached error log for reference. I can share the install log if needed.

Can you launch a blank Workbench session ? If so, can you try other Workbench project or just create a test one ?

Hello tsiriaks, 

I was able to fix the error that was showing up earlier. I created a small wbpj file and the corresponding folder and placed it in the correct folder. It cleared out the previous error but now I got an error that says runwb2 command not found.

 

I thought I did not have correct environment variables to point to the correct path but I checked and it seems okay.

Any suggestions for me on how to fix it?

Also,

I am now using MobaXterm to try and figure out the situation using X11 and GUI. I changed directory to /ansys_inc/v191/Framework/bin/Linux64 where my runwb2 is located. I entered "runwb2" to run a GUI workbench session and got an error that says 

"/ansys_inc/v191/Framework/bin/Linux64/runwb2: line11: /ansys_in/v191/Tools/mono/Linux64/bin/mono: No such file or directory"

I checked the mono directory and correctly so, there is no runwb2 in the mono directory. Is this a possible cause?

Did you type this or you copy-paste

Because the path that it's looking for mono is under /ansys_in/

If that is what is really showing on the error message, then you may need to check your environment variable, or you can print out the entire thing and post it here and we can help check that.

Oh, My bad. I had typed the error. it is indeed "ansys_inc" in the error message.  I am attaching the screenshot showing my environment variable pointing to the path and the error that I get.

I see. Thanks for the screenshots. 

This issue definitely is not related to any environment variable but you may need to remove the 'runwb2' at the end , when you export the PATH .

Is there a file named 'mono' under that directory (/ansys_inc/v191/Tools/mono/Linux64/bin/ )?

If not, then there might be some issue with the installation. Check if you have an install.err file under /ansys_inc/

I removed the runwb2 from the environment variables.

There is no "bin" under /ansys_inc/v191/Tools/mono/Linux actually. I have attached a screenshot. 

I am wondering why is the system looking for runwb2 in this location instead of the path specified which is not the one with "mono".

 

Here's a screenshot of the directory where path points. It does have runwb2.

Also, there is an install.err file under ansys_inc but it is empty. there is an install.log file which I have copied here.

I would recommend to reinstall the software. You are supposed to have more than just 'lib' folder under that directory.

You may need to check if the installation package is 'unpack' completely/successfully (you can provide the size, and name of your installation package, then I can verify if it's extracted completely). 

To answer the question with mono vs runwb2 , the 'mono' is the tool to help the deployment of the software (code) available on different systems, see https://www.mono-project.com/

So, it still tries to run the runwb2 script but it needs mono to interpret the script.

Thank you for your help. I checked and mono did not have any other folders. 

So, following your advice, I decided to do a new install and now I get an error saying "The manifest file specified for this installation does not exist. Please verify that the install was run according to the documentation. 

File not found: uninst_data.dat"

The unzipped file I am using is STRUCTURES_191_LINX64.tar and it is 4688590 KB in size.  If you notice in the image below, ever directory before 191-1.dvd does not show a size parameter. Everything inside these directories is still a LINx64.TGZ

can you open up a terminal then issue the following command

ls -al /work/03651/dighe_um/ANSYS191

then post the screenshot of the output of it.

The %APPDATA%Ansys   in Windows   is similar to this $HOME/.ansys   in Linux

I ran the ls -al command and this is what came up. 

I deleted uninst_data.dat from $HOME and tried to reinstall everything in /work/03651/dighe_um/ANSYS191 and it still gives me error about the manifest and not being able to find uninst_data. I have a home and a work directory. I cleared out both by deleting everything. I copied the STRUCTURES_191_LINX74.tar file in /work/03651/dighe_um/ANSYS191. I untarred it in the same directory and installed it again in the same directory. When I submit a job, it still errors out saying it cannot find runwb2. Although, if I use MobaXterm to run a GUI version using runwb2, it opens workbench but errors out giving a licensing error. This was not the case earlier. Maybe, the system is not finding the correct license path and that is why giving this error ? 

I do see more directories under /v191/Tools/mono/Linux64 though, which I was not seeing before.

Let's wipe everything:

The installation directory , /ansys_inc/   

The home/work directory (for the .ansys folder inside them like $HOME/.ansys)

Now, let's 'untar' the package into some other directory , after this is completely finished , issue this command 

ls -al

and send me the screenshot again.

Now, install the package from this directory , make sure that you do it with root or using sudo

With your help, I may have solved the installation issue but now I am having an error with running jobs on this installation. This may not be installation related but I will post it here and if this is not the correct thread, I will move it to the correct location.

I am submitting a job using a script that looks like this : 

 

I checked the environment variables and they seem OK.  The tacctrial.wbpj file is big and that's why I am not copying it here in its full form but showing the first few lines from that file

 

 The error no longer says runwb2 command not found. Instead, it says:

However, I would note that SLURM is not officially supported by ANSYS and it needs special customization.
