SubscriberHello all,
I currently have a transient fluent simulation for a heat sink. I believe the Fluent portion of my simulations are working just fine. However, I am struggling with linking the fluent simulation to the transient structual component of the simulation.
Specifically, I am trying to determine the minimum safety factor at various points in time. However, I am having difficulty tabulating data and properly utilizing the Analysis Settings in Transient. I am very frequently obtaining an "invalid time step settings" error, despite the fact that I thought I had a relatively good understanding of how to adjust these parameters.
Any help would be greatly appreciatedÂ

Forum ModeratorHi,
What is the data that you want to export from Fluent into Mechanical? Can you export date from Fluent and import the same via External Data module?
Regards,

SubscriberHello again,
Apologies for the late response. I attached some screenshots of what I am trying to do.
As mentioned previously, I am trying to monitor the safety factor over time after linking my fluent data to my transient structural data. However, even when trying to utilize the same time step settings from Fluent, I get the above error in transient structural.Â

Just use one step not 1000 (adjust the end and step time as needed), and then import all data – choose Source time ALL (to import all time data).
All the best

SubscriberSo if I wanted to simulate a total of 10 s:
Number of steps: 1
Step end time: 10s?
Time step : 1e-2 s
and then import data into the worksheet?

Hi
Not an expert in FSI, but yes.
Most important is:
choose Source time to ALL and not Worksheet (to import ALL time data ).
For time step size you might want to change that if you look into dynamic effects (/forum/forums/topic/how-do-calculate-time-step-size-in-ansys-transient-structural/)
All the best

SubscriberOne last question and then I think I got it. Is the source time located within the analysis settings tab? I am currently having a difficult time finding the source time setting.Â
Thank you for your help. You have been very helpful!

Hi
It is under the Imported Load (perhaps you import pressure or temperature so under the details of that and it is there).
See here for more info and where to set/find the Source Time of the imported load.

SubscriberHi again,
Once again, thank you for your help. Everything I have learned in this forum has been quite helpful. I was able to adjust the source time and the solution data tabulates my desired time settings. However, I still am encountering the issue of this time data not being tabulated for my safety factor or equivalent stress as shown in the image attached. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Ansys EmployeeHi
It looks like not much is happening - so wonder if the loading is like from fluent and if all the data gets imported correctly.

SubscriberShould I try to export data externally? However, I feel like that may become messy or difficult with the amount of time steps I have
