ANSYS fluent solver for potential flow

      Hello,

      I am currently working on a simulation involving potential flow over a bluff body inside a cylindrical tube. To approximate the inviscid and irrotational nature of potential flow, I used the inviscid flow model in ANSYS Fluent. However, the results did not match theoretical expectations.

      My goal is to capture classic potential flow characteristics (i.e., incompressible, irrotational, inviscid flow governed by Laplace’s equation). From my understanding, Fluent does not directly solve for the velocity potential, and I have not found a clear recommendation in the documentation or related posters on how to achieve this.

      Could anyone advise:

      1. Whether Fluent can be used to accurately model potential flow?

      2. If not, is there a workaround or a better-suited ANSYS tool or method for this kind of problem?

      Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

      In Fluent, we can model potential flow using a steady solver with an inviscid flow model. Check boundary conditions and set up. Could you add more details on your results? Perhaps some contours or graphs and comparison, and what are you comparing with?
