Ansys and NVIDIA A40?

Is anyone running Ansys on a Linux (Ubuntu 20.04) VM using NVIDIA A40 grid cards?  I have a test VM running, and the VM shows that it has the correct NVIDIA driver, along with OpenGL 4.6, but I'm having issues.  The Ansys workbench UI loads, but the window where the model graphics should appear is blank.

      Hi Don,

Can you share the screenshot of the error?

It's not generating an error.  It just doesn't show the model.  The region of the UI where the model is supposed to appear is blank.

      Hi Don,

Did you install the application as admin? If not then please install it as admin.

Can you clear the cache (type %appdata% in the address bar), rename the Ansys folder to Ansys.old, (type %temp% in the address bar).ansys folder to .ansys.old,  and relaunch the application.

Also, can you check your event logs goto START--> event viewer--> expand windows logs--> select Application log. Do you see an error logged over there?

This is on Linux, so some of what you suggested doesn't apply.

I installed as root.  I also renamed /usr/local/ansys_inc and reinstalled Ansys 23R1 from scratch.  No difference.

I had also completely removed any Ansys folders in my home directory tree, so all of that is new as well.

      Hi Don,

May I know which version you are using now?

I still have the previous ansys_inc directory tree (that contains 4-5 versions of Ansys) set aside as ansys_inc_old.  So the only active version on the system is 2023R1.

      Hi Don,

Here is the link for the graphics cards tested by Ansys Graphics Cards Tested (ansys.com).

I've looked at that list before.  I have another forum thread open where this same thing is happening on our workstations, and this seems to be the fallback response.  I realize that you can't test every card, but it seems like something as high-end as the NVIDIA A40 would have at least the minimum specs/requirements to run.

All of the workstations that we have were able to run Ansys versions prior to 19.2.

      Hi Don,

Can you send the screenshot of this screen that you have mentioned, "The Ansys workbench UI loads, but the window where the model graphics should appear is blank."

The first image is just getting the project loaded.  I then double-click on the Model line, it says "Starting Mechanical" at the bottom, and then the second window opens.

      Anything else?

      Hi Don,

If you select Reset layout, does it pop anything?

Also, can you try to open a new mechanical file, instead of importing a project and let me know if layout is the same for it?

Try to import other projects too.

I tried "Reset Layout" in the Mechanical window.  The blank content area moved from the right side of the window to the left for a couple seconds, then moved back, but otherwise everything is the same.

I tried opening a new project and then a new Mechanical Model.  That works fine, but there is still nothing in the content window.  I think there should be a ruler and an x/y/z arrowhead, but those aren't there.  I'm an IT guy, so I don't know what to do with it beyond that.

Do you have a known-good sample project with a Mechanical model that I could download and try?
