SubscriberN42 neodymium ring magnet simulation PERMANENT MAGNET MAGNETIC FIELD AND FORCE. AIR GAP VS MAGNETIC PULL FORCE
I am trying to see how magnetic force will change with the air gap. the air gap is between the axially polarised ring magnet and the solid steel cylinder. Also I want to plot this magnet's magnetic flux and magnetic forces. But cannot set up the simulation

Subscriber   I only see one solid ring. Is that the magnet? If so, where is the steel flux plate? I assume the Enclosure is the air around the system.

SubscriberHi, yes, air enclosure. the ring magnet is supposed to levitate a steel rotor of a cylindrical shape(basically an extruded circle in any CAD). All I need is the magnetic pulling force of the magnet with the air gap. i.e at a given air gap what mass/weight the magnet can hold. I can include the rotor for visual. Thank you. any help would be greatly appreciated

SubscriberHi thereÂ
I have seen it but in this tutorial he does not add any magnet. I want to see how to add N42 magnet material since it is not in the ansys list. I am suprised it is not among standard magnetic materials.Â
Also, he specifies some Current, I don't have any current. Permanent magnet no electric conductor.Â

SubscriberYes actually this is exactly what I need. But the problem is at City uni they did not activate this program on our campus computers. Although they do have licence. and I cannot download it on my pc because I don't have the required 25 GB free space on my hard drive.Â

SubscriberIn workbench just use a nonlinear B-H curve fro the engineering data (you probably need to defin it yourself) and then set the polarization in the right direction - you need to model the air ofcourse like in the tutorial.
If you want linear hard material (you can choose it in engineering data), then you need to know the coercive force and the residual induction of the magnet.
Â
That is it

SubscriberI have done it already. my first post shows the error I receive when I try to simulate.

SubscriberIt is impossible to say anything from that. Go into the error message and the solve.out file where you save your model data and post it here. Alternatively go to file/archive from the main menu and save it as a .wbpz file and attach your model on your previous post (use Attach button next to your post)

SubscriberDo not have a clue what that is.
Â
I would suggest though to have 3 parts (you have 2 only) as you say magnet, air and cylinder, and use multi body part in DM as in the tutorial so they will share a common mesh interface.
Â
Here are some other suggestions from a similar post:
Â
/forum/forums/topic/an-error-encountered-during-the-simulation-in-ansys-17-1-workbench/
Â
Try that but I am afraid I can not help on this more.Â

SubscriberHow to define direction of current in a closed loop coil ( stranded coil with kind of elliptical shape)? Bcz we can't use Cartesian coordinate system for round shapes. There should be another way , plz help me.

SubscriberCan you create a Cylindrical Coordinate System and try that? I understand that would only be accurate for a circular shape, but see if it can be used at all.
