Ansys 19.2 student version installation problem

      I downloaded the student version from the site. After extracting the set up I installed it with admin privilege. I am unable to  open both workbench & apdl. Getting an error. There is text file generated in C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Student path which says  couldn't execute "C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194RSMbinAnsConfigRSM.exe": no such file or directory. So help me out here, how to resolve this issue?

      Hi rhishib,

      Do you have an install.err file under C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Student  ? If so, please post the entire content of it here.

      Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, I do have install.err file under mentioned location.The file says following text-

      Can you try running this

      C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194ProductConfig.exe   with 'run as admin'  -> Configure Products & CAD -> Select all products

      Thank you for your response. I ran the ProductConfig.exe file as admin & when I tried to select all products, it shows noting in top down menu. For reference I attached the screenshot of it.

      I think it's best you reinstall it 'fresh'

      Run C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194Uninstall.exe  with 'run as admin'

      then, remove C:Program FilesANSYS Inc folder out

      then, reinstall the software with 'run as admin'

      I did that several times, was getting the same above mentioned error. So, I posted this in the student community.

      Do you have any security software like Firewall, Anti-virus, etc. ? If so, make sure you try reinstalling it while those are disabled.

      Also, open the CMD Prompt, and issue the following command

      dir /s "%awp_root191%*Ansconfig*"

      then post the output of it here.

      I do have Anti-virus which i disable during the installation. After using the above command in CMD Prompt, I;ve got the following attached output. I've also attached the error I am getting while trying to open Workbench. I am able open APDL without any difficulty.

      Sorry, I forgot that you are using 19.4 (2019 R2) , please use this command instead.

      dir /s "%awp_root194%*Ansconfig*"

      but your installation seems to have a lot of files missing, especially those used with Workbench.

      Could you post the entire content of your C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentinstall.log  file ?

      Also, right click on the installation package that you used (after unzipped) , then 'Properties' and post the screenshot of it here.

      Also, one more thing, can you check how many files are missing when you launch Workbench, like this thread

      /forum/forums/topic/workbench-start-errors/

      chances are that you still have something on the machine that interferes with the installation.

      After following the above given thread, i tried to open the 'show message' on right hand corner in Workbench but I was unable to open that tab (error message appearing on screen isn't letting me do that).

      Thanks for the info. You do have issue with configuring RSM but that's not related to this issue and can be neglected. 

      You must be missing some dll files under certain folders. Can you run the following command

      dir /s "C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194addins*.dll*" | findstr File(s)

      then post the screenshot of the output

      Hmm, they seem to be there.

      From the error message in Workbench, can you click 'Show Details' , then copy and paste the entire text message here ?

      Do you get the same errors if you open Workbench with 'run as admin' ?

      Yes, I get the same message when I open Wokbench as admin & without admin too. The message after clicking show details is as follows-

      hm, I didn't know RSM configuration is required when WB is launched. So, the issue has always been the fact that your RSM extraction and configuration was never done successfully. I'm not sure why but let's try a manual way.

      Go to your F:softwareANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_2019R2_WINX64rsmWINX64.7z  , then manually extract this using any unzip tool. You should get 'RSM' folder. 

      Copy and paste this folder to replace the one in

      C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194RSM

      now open elevated CMD Prompt, right click on CMD Prompt, then 'run as admin' , and issue the following command

      "C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Studentv194RSMbinAnsConfigRSM.exe" -encodingUTF8

      does this help ?

      ok, so even the manual extraction still have files missing.

      Go to your 'RSM' folder from this step

      "F:softwareANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_2019R2_WINX64rsmWINX64.7z  , then manually extract this using any unzip tool. You should get 'RSM' folder. "

      How many files do you have in 'RSM' folder after unzipping WINX64.7z ?

      Also, search inside that 'RSM' folder for keywords 'ans.rsm.client' and 'AnsConfigRSM'

      Afrer manual extract, I found 3 folders in RSM folder.

      After searching inside that 'RSM' folder for keywords 'ans.rsm.client' and 'AnsConfigRSM' I found 2 files as follows

      Your extraction really missed some files. There's supposed to be, at least, AnsConfigRSM.exe in 

      F:softwareANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_2019R2_WINX64rsmWINX64RSMbin

      Let's do this, use your unzip tool to open this

      F:softwareANSYSACADEMICSTUDENT_2019R2_WINX64rsmWINX64.7z   

      WITHOUT extracting this. Just open the .7z directly. 

      Now browse into RSM folder -> Bin , do you see AnsConfigRSM.exe in here ?

      Sorry for the late reply. Nothing was working for me, so I formatted my Win 10 & reinstall the Ansys. It worked. Everything is working fine now. Tanks for sticking with me for the last 3 weeks.

      We were very close to the root cause. There was something wrong with the extraction of that WINX64.7z or some anti-virus software removed files right after they got extracted. In any case, I'm glad it's working for you now. Thank you for the update.

      Try extracting the downloaded file into somewhere that's not OneDrive. We've had some issues with that as it adds random characters etc into paths.
