Hello,
I managed to build and sucessfully solve static structural model in Mechanical. While building my project I regularly made backups since from time to time I would be faced with the error mentioned in the title that I just couldn't resolve. If I once again had that error, I would just load a backup.
Now even this no longer works. I load a already solved model from backup, I erase the solution data to see if this error persists, try to solve it again and now still get this error message a few seconds after clicking "solve". An error in the very same model, that I was able to solve just yesterday.
From other sources I have tried multiple things:
- deactivate GPU acelleration
- increase virtual memory
- made sure there are no UCP Connections involved
Nothing helped.
I couldn't find any error logs or similar to inspect. I am using ANSYS Teaching 2023 R1.
Anyone has some ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Hello Alex,
Can you try following suggestions made in this forum discussion and let us know if that didn't help:
Ansys Mechanical – “An error occurred while starting the solver module”
Probably resetting app data might help sometimes. Here's how you can do it:
- Go to the Start Menu and open %temp% folder. Search for ‘.ansys’ folder and rename it to ‘.ansys.old’ then launch the application.
- Open a file explorer and type %appdata% in the address bar.
Locate the Ansys folder --> select version (V231) and rename it to V231.old
Regards,
Nanda.

Can you check this link too:
An error occurred inside the SOLVER module: general error (Reccurent problem) (ansys.com)
Does the issue persists when you build a new project from scratch. Are you able to solve a simple tensile/compression test?
Thanks,
Nanda

Hello,
I restarted to simulation, just to make sure that this problem is still there. Unfortunately it is.
I proceeded to rename the folders as you mentioned and tried again, but it still throws an error.
The problem does not exist when building a new project from scratch. It works just fine. I can actually load some very old backups and they work fine as well.
I also checked the posts you mentioned before I even opened this thread but couldn't find anything useful.
Maybe a full reinstall will help?

Alex

Hello Alex,
When you can solve a new project without error and facing error with one particular file simply tells us that the issue is in the file, not with Ansys product. Reinstallation is not recommended in this case.
Probably cleaning up this project or build it again from scratch should resolve.
Here's how you can clean the project from corruptions:

Hello Nana,
thanks! Your suggestion seems to have helped. So there was indeed something wrong with the file.
However, this problem happened quite frequently so I do think there is something wrong with the ANSYS Product.
I don't know what causes this problem but I believe to have found a way to prevent it. When comparing my problem to other threads about the same issue it is usually some sort of Student/Teaching version of Ansys. At least at my university you either need to be connected to its network via VPN or be at the university logged in in its Wifi in order to provide a valid License to the Ansys Server.
When I worked at home, forgot to close my Project and then went to University this problem often occurred.
In order to prevent this, I now close Ansys before going to Uni and disconnect the VPN.
At Uni I set up the VPN (despite beeing logged in to Uni Wifi), and the restart Ansys.
Never had this problem again. Maybe it was just luck, but hopefully this helps others with the same problem.
Regards
Alex
