Hi Albinus,
Will you please upload the screenshot of the simulation? What do you mean by contact does not work? Will you explain in detail with the screenshot of the contact?

the void between the solid shells are given radiation boundary condition.

the outermost surface is give a convection boundary condition.

the blue mesh below is the solid air and the shell covering it is stuctural steel. I've defined bonded contacts between them.

Hi Albinus,
I have made a simple three-layer body and assigned structural steel to the outer body and air to the sandwich body. I have provided the bonded contact between them and I don't think there is a problem for bonded contact with Air assigned material.
