Hello !
Â
I'm studying a flow in a flexible tube. To do so, I'm learning how to use the FSI two way option in Fluent through a tutorial on Youtube (youtube.com/watch?v=AO_n-tESNPo). I have followed it occurently until the end of the part 3, at this moment i have to update the coupling system solution and it compiles the result.
Â
The software is able to connect all the participants (fluent CFD and Mechanical APDL), but the I have a message of error :Â
Â
1 -Â "An unknown error happened during resolution. Check the out data of solution"
2 -Â "Check the transient structure system" (Some time it is about the fluids mechanics system)
3 - "Update of the solution in coupling system failed. An unexpected errror appeared in the coupling système "
I work in french, i attached the message of error and also what i find when i check the different participant.
Â
I have read on the internet that i have to switch from "Use a separate license for each application" to "share a single license between application when possible". But it did not help the problem, even when I restart Ansys.
Â
I'm using Ansys 19.2 and the coupling system version is 14.0.
Â
Thank you !

I don't think you can do 2-way FSI with the student/teaching licence you may need Research keys.Â

I'm a student in research, and so i have access to "ANSYS academic Research Mechanical and CFD"

OK, that's good. Check you are using that licence and not a teaching one. Are there any tutorials? Ie is it the install or your model that's the problem.Â

I checked, i use the research acadenmic one which allow me to use the coupling system. I have followed the tutorial that i put in my first post, i have also tried with this one :
Â
given by Ansys Portal. I have the same error. Actually i don't know where the problem come from, if it is from the licence (apparently not, unless if a problem during intall or anti-virus can make this type of error). For the model i tried an other one (the tutorial from Ansys portal) to see if it could work but apprently not... So i have no other ideas of what it can be and how to track this issu.

If the tutorials aren't working then it's system side (I'll assume you followed the instructions correctly). Can you look on the Portal for a solution? From memory it's the Firewall that sometimes causes problems: I'm also not overly familiar with system coupling as anything that bends enough to alter the fluid flow tends to have broken in the field I work in.Â

Hi,
I tried without the friewall but it didn't work, actually i have access to a floating license. I've chosen in the "preferences" the research one, but i was wondering if it chooses the license it uses at each step and so if sometimes it just takes what is available. How could i fix this? I have also update to the Ansys 19.4 but it still don't work with the error "failure at the launch of coupling system"

Research should be maintained, but check it's called for both solvers.Â

I have been told that when ANSYS is installed the coupling system option has to be checked. I ask the person in charge but he told me he didn't see a "coupling system option", do you know about this ?

Not aware of that, and I've just installed 2019R3:Â I assume you've got the full install and haven't missed anything out.Â

Hi Audrey,
Please copy and paste the output from the Fluent TUI into a message so that I can see any Fluent errors.
Also, the most up to date tutorials can be found on the online help page:Â https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v193/sysc_tut/sysc_tut_oscplate_workbench.html. This is also accessible from the ANSYS Help shortcut in the Start menu.
There isn't a separate checkbox for System Coupling. You have it installed.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I don't have the same error with this version (2019R2) here is what i have :
"Échec de la mise à jour du composant Solution dans Couplage de systèmes. Échec au démarrage du service de couplage."
which means : "Failed in the update of the composant solution in system coupling. Failed at the beginning.ÂÂÂÂÂÂ"
It seems like it succeed in compiling the transient structure but then it fails in using coupling system. I don't know what the TUI is, do you need more precision ?
on the option's install i can see "ANSYS Additional Tools - extensiblity", the coupling system is not in this ? it's just because i don't know what the person in charge do when he installs the software, i don't want to miss something...

Hi Audrey,
The TUI is the text user interface in Fluent that displays solving information and other important information. In the System Coupling interface you can view the log files for System Coupling as well as each of the participants. This is shown below. The TUI contents will be saved to the Solution.trn log file. The log file you posted last is from the Mechanical solver. Please see if there are any error messages in the System Coupling or Fluent log files, and then post them here.

Ok sorry...
So I don't have those Files, they don't exist. I have this :
but when i go there i see this :
It is the same for fluent i only got "FFF.set", "FFF-1-00000.dat", and "FFF-Setup-Output.cz", when i uncompressed the last one, it seems to be only the setup i made in fluent.
In fact, seems like if he compiles the transient structure, try to go to the coupling system before compiling fluent, and then he fails to start the coupling system.Â

Hi Audrey,
I'm not too sure why the files wouldn't be there. I've never seen that before. To confirm, you've gone through all of the instructions listed in the tutorial, https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v193/sysc_tut/sysc_tut_oscplate_workbench.html? Are there any other warning messages that you can share?

Hi Audrey,
Sorry for the delay. In your earlier message you said "coupling system version is 14.0". Can you send a screenshot of where this is shown?
