2020 R1 vs 2019 R3

      I have been using my schools Virtual Desktop Interface (VDI) to run simulations in ANSYS 2019R3, but with the increase demand on their network along with more students trying to access the VDI I have decided to try and run the simulations from home using the student version of ANSYS 2020.  I was able to extract all the files and folder structure and open up one of the simulations that converged in the VDI environment.  When I try to rerun the same (solution method, Boundary Conditions, Residual requirements, etc) file I am not getting a solution that converges.  In the 19R3 version the simulation converged around 250 iterations, but now in the 2020 version I have fun 2000 iterations without a convergent solution.  Would there be something that has changed in the software that would cause a difference in how calculations are being performed?  Has anybody else run into similar issues?

      if you are getting converged solution in 19.3 then you also should get it in 2020R1. 


      please cross check all your input conditions. 


      what is your application? what settings are you using? are able reproduce similar difference on any simple case like flow through pipe?

      I am simulating flow through a 2D pipe that is getting smaller as it goes downstream.  Both simulations are using double precision, 2D solver, with Energy and standard k-e, standard wall fn and all the other models are off.  I have the same materials and boundary conditions in both simulations as well.  The outlet is pressure outlet with a target mass flow rate and preventing reverse flow, the inlet is also prevent reverse flow.  Both have no heat transfer properties on any of the walls.  All of the solution methods are the same and the monitors are set to the same values.  All of the values and options that I have put into the 19.3 solver on the schools virtual computer are identical to the inputs I have put in the 2020 solver on my computer.  


      I have not attempted a simpler model yet to see if I get similar issues.  That will be the next step of trying to troubleshoot if I can't isolate another potential input that might be different between the two versions.

      Not to add any more confusion, but after verifying all of the options were the same, which they were and no updates, I attempted to rerun the information to see if any of the data points at the end of 500 iterations would help me try to troubleshoot.  This time my solution converged and matches everything that was in the previous solution.  I'm not sure what changed except closing ANSYS out yesterday and reopening it today, but things seem to be working now.  Hopefully this is just one of the glitches that I seem to be able to find across multiple platforms now.
