Hello Joshua,

      Could you try to use "Classic" option in intial mesh setting? and enable "Use dynamic surface resolution" if having more difficult surface first. 

      If the classic mesh cannot resolve the issue, could you try to use eddy current solver? For DC excitation, you could enter a small value for apadtive frequency and it would be close to DC. This solver will support thin gap boundary with relative permeability.
