SubscriberI am trying to design a cylindrically conformed microstrip Patch Antenna at 1.56 Ghz. I have been able to bend the antenna wrap sheet command however, I need some help in designing the coaxial feed as the antenna is bent and designing the coaxial feed in bent condition is not working . I would be very thankful in someone can please help me with this.n

Ansys EmployeeHi Array,
Did you try wrapping the cross section of the coaxial feed like and then thicken it. I am assuming that you have created substrate, top and bottom conductor surfaces using the said technique?
Please let us know.
All the very best.

Subscriber.Hi Pmunaga,
Thanks for your reply. Yes I tried wrapping the cross section of coaxial feed and thicken it but it gave me some other problems. I am attaching the pictures below:
- The bottom conductor does not fully wrap around the cylinder as you can see the gaps, similarly there are gaps between the substrate and the bottom copper plate. I used the same technique for wrapping.. 1st make conductor as sheet and then wrap it around the cylinder and then thicken it.... 2nd make the substrate a sheet and wrap it with the bottom conductor and then thicken it. I believe the gaps between sheets(substrate and conductors) will be a problem during the EM simulation.
- I also tried to do the same with coaxial feed and pin by making them sheets, wrapping them and then thickening them but as they have to be inserted inside an already bent/ wrapped feed hole, there seems to be problem of overlapping/ intersection.
I would be very grateful if you can please help me with this. I am the pictures of the above stated problems for better understanding.
Regards

Ansys EmployeeHi Array,
Below are my responses to your queries in the same order.
The gap between the cylinder and the wrapped sheets is because of default rendering. The default render settings helps to provide glitch free experience while modelling. I would suggest you to not worry on this. Hence there will be no problem for EM simulation.
What materials are you using for "patch", "coax_pin", "substrate" and "coax_dielectric"?

SubscriberHi pmunaga,
Thanks for your response. I am using followings materuals:
Patch - Copper
coaxpin - Copper
Subsrtate - Own dielectric with Er=2.2
coax_dielectric - Teflon

Ansys EmployeeHi Array,
Did you try solving the planar antenna model before proceeding for wrapping?
If not please check whether the said errors were popping during simulation.
All the very best.

SubscriberHi pmunaga,
I have been able to figure out the problem was with the material overlap because of bending. I had to subtract the overlapping materials form one another as per situation. Thanks for your support,
Tauseef

Ansys EmployeeHello,Â
You can first define an axis with the angle at which the antenna should be placed, then use the move tool to change the angle of the antenna and use the same tool move it to the required place.Â
