SubscriberAnsys Discovery, 2023R2, Refine Mode, External Flow. I define the enclosure using Prepare-Enclosure Tool. I'm trying to monitor force exerted on s simple solid body (a simple cylinder) at X direction (donwstream). Either I inculde the solid body in simulation and define it as a Stationary Wall, in which case i get the error message: "Default interface found on the same surface as Stationary Wall is applied. You may resolve this by removing the overlapping condition or apply another condition of the interface or use the imprint tool to split surfaces." When solid is included in simulation, I tried to remove the overlapping condition (defined as stationary Wall), but then the results on Force monitoring graph simply do not exist (no points on the graph) , obviously since there is not any boundary condition. OR I do not include the solid body at all, in the simulation , and thus Discovery defines it as a No-Slip Wall (default) , in which case i receive another error message: "The location for X force is completely suppressed. No results available". I tried many different combinations of Force-Monitor locations and varius forms of the setup. Unfortunately i cannot get force monitoring results. Thanks.

Forum ModeratorHello Atol,
Are you having cutter bodies in your simulation? In refine mode, cutter bodies are not supported.
When in explore stage you will have to subtract the solid from fluid domain and then define the force on the subtracted region as shown below:
The error shown is just to let you know that monitor has been applied on the whole location where you have non slip wall condition.

Devendra

SubscriberThanks for the fast response. I apologize, I'm a beginner and I most probably miss a lot of details: (1). By “cutter bodies” you mean solid parts created using MODEL-> combine tool – cutters on target solids? In that case: No, I do not have any of them. (2). By “subtracting the solid body from fluid domain”, I suppose you mean “Exclude it from simulation” = the little green cross , which should be clicked and become a red ⮾ just in the left of the solid body , in the dashboard tree; or something else? In that case, yes, the solid body has been already excluded from simulation (red ⮾). Despite what i've opted, I keep receiving error messages. Even If i manage to set the monitor variable (for Force X) , the simulation cannot run. I instead receive the error message: "Analysis Solve Stopped. The job submission failed. See the Inner SubmissionResult rpoperty for more details". If I remove the monitor variable (Force X or Y or whatever) the simulation runs normally till the end, producing streamines, vectors, particles etc.). But without being able to get the requested results for my analysis (e.g. Force on solid body). By the way: How and where can I see the Inner Submission Result properties? Thanks a lot in advance.

Forum ModeratorHello,
Can you send me the image of the error messages and setup?
You can refer this CFD Analysis of a STEM Racing Car Using Ansys Discovery | Ansys Courses & Aerodynamics Discovery Day | Ansys Innovation Courses courses in Discovery which will help you with modeling external flow in Ansys Discovery.

SubscriberCertainly: A) This is my setup, which normally does produce results of Vectors, Streamlines , Particles etc.
B) This is my setup when adding the Monitoring Variable (Force along X):
C) And this is what i get when trying to run the simulation with the variable (Force X) included in the monitoring results:
Thanks!

Forum ModeratorHi Atol,
It looks like you are using 2023 R2 SP2 version. Can you give it a try in the latest version of Discovery 2025 R1 or 2024 R2 to see if that helps.
Regards,
Devendra

SubscriberThank you for your prompt reply,
Should I unistall the whole Ansys software and reinstall it? In that case, what about licencing? Or is it ok to proceed solely with the Discovery option?

Forum ModeratorNo need to uninstall whole ANSYS software. You can directly install Discovery 2025 R1 from here Discovery Downloads | Ansys Knowledge
What license do you have Flaoting or Named user one?

Devendra

SubscriberIt's an academic research and teaching licence for multiple users, through my univeristy. I'm not sure if it's a named user or a floating one. In the portal hereby (ansys innovation space - Learning forum) my name is shown in my profile (top right). I don't know if it's relevant with my Discovery or Ansys Licence type.
