Problem in meshing slinky coil burried in the ground

      Dear all,

I want to simulate slinky coil ground heat exchanger by Ansys 17.2. The mesh ground is attached sample. The coil diameter is 1 m and pipe diameter is 43 mm. The mesh far from coil is robust and near coil is fine. I just want to simulate one turn due to computational limitations. However, I find mesh problem in near coil ground. I have tried body influence but it is failed. I want to get as good as attached figure.

      Do you have any suggestions?

      Thank you
      best regards

Does the coil touch the edge of the domain?

      Dear rwoolhou

Thank you for your reply. No coil does no touch the edge of the domain. there is a gap between the coil and the edge of the domain is from 10 to 40 cm.

      regards

And the coil surface doesn't contact any flat surfaces?

      Dear rwoolhou

The coil surface does not contact the flat surface. I consider of use a gap to prevent problem with the flat surface.  The ground is assumed as solid no ground water flow in the ground.

      Thank you

      Dear rwoolhou

I have tried body influence it seems can not work so I divide ground into several parts as interface. Because the size of the coil is small compared to the ground. It makes me easier to mesh. However the problem is overlapping mesh. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you for your help

Check the contact regions carefully. I suspect you've got the ones you want and (possibly) some trying to pair faces that shouldn't contact.

      Dear rwoolhou

Thank you for your reply. Well, I think I don't recognize each contact region. I will check each contact. If I find any problem, i will ask you.
