SubscriberThe Ansys help is very comprehensive in explaining all things contact. In APDL you can obviously script all your contact needs, but there is also the contact manager and contact wizard for managing and creating contacts. To access the contact manager there is a button in the top toolbar. Once the contact manager is open the first button on the left is the contact wizard. You can define contacts through GUI selections or pre-defined components with the contact wizard.
If you need any more assistance let me know.

SubscriberHi Mr Starling,
Thank you very much for your answer, it is really helpful.
I have a question. As per the above very simple diagram. in a 2D layered soil system. this contact (contact between soil layers) should be surface to surface or line to line?
Thank you very much again
Have great start in the new year 2020

SubscriberThis contact is defined as surface to surface. It is a line shape element though. You can check your model by confirming the contact elements that are created. You should see Contact 172 elements defined.
