Workbench LS-Dyna – Bodie penetrations during droptest

Hi all, I have issues with bodies going through each other during drop test. How to setup contacts between elements to avoid these penetrations? What can be set up wrongly?

      Hello Douk,

If the geometry you use has two or more bodies in contact, a Body Interactions object folder appears by default under Connections in the tree. Included in a Body Interactions folder are one or more Body Interaction objects, with each object representing a contact pair. If this is not turned on, can you add this manually?

For more detailed guidelines on using body interactions, please follow this link: 3.2. Body Interactions in Explicit Dynamics Analyses

This should handle contact penetrations smoothly, please let us know if this is not helping.

      Regards,

      Nanda.

Hi Nanda, thank you for your input. I use the following way of working (in line with the droptest tutorial I followed).

For interactions between the parts that collide with each other, I use the body interactions scoped to all bodies. When parts are bonded, I add a bonded contact to them. to prevent parts from going trough the floor, I also added a seperate contact propertie between them and the floor.

Is this correct way of working, or should I not use body interactions at all?

      Hello Douk,

I did a test run on a similar PCD drop-test model, the model ran smoothly without any contact penetrations. Can you share more specific details of which contact this penetration is occurring?

      • Is it for all contacts or a specific contact?
      • Are these automatically generated contacts by Ansys or manually specified by you?
      • Can you try removing the frictional between multiple and floor? This should be handled by body interactions by default.
