Our LSDYNA network license was operational up until few weeks ago and then stopped. We were'nt notified until recently, so the synopsis is as follows:
LSDYNA not Working
Not sure when, but out LSTC windows service stopped functioning and we were just notified. Manual start of the service fails, so clients are unable to connect. I tried a fresh install of the license manager in a new directory, but service still fails. The LSTC log file displays the following:
*********************************************************************

Additionally, when I try to start the service from the console,
Timed out trying to start the service
Using config file c:\lsdyna2024\server_data
Error: Could not open configuration file
Error: Could not open license file c:\lsdyna2024\server_dataSince playing around with this further, I've now run into an additional problem. I tried a completely fresh install, removed the service, reinstalled in a new directory, only now when I try to run the license manager utility I get a Visual Basic error.......unable to get past that..... now the utility is completely non functionalI suspect because this is a virtual machine, the hostID changed even though the name of the server and IP remained the same. Therefore the restore that was done on the server, broke the license file we were provided. Now I can't even run the utility without generating the VisualC error, so I need this fixed asap. -

Hi,
Thanks for contacting us. The error “the host id(s) of this machine ( 7D76C756 4699DD69 ) not found in the license file C:\LSDYNA2024\server_data” means that the host ID of the license server does not match the host ID (SERVER lines) in the license file (server_data). The possible reason is that the host ID of the license server has changed, which is common on virtual machines.
To address this issue, there is a need to make a new LSTC license file. Please check out the following sources about the LSTC licensing guides for Linux/Windows:

I understand that issue, and that in order to resolve will require a new license file. Unfortunately, the larger concern is the fact that everytime I lauch the admingui, I end up with the Visual C++ error outlined in the last snapshot. Without access to the gui, I can't run the service or generate a new server info file.

Hi,
Can you uninstall the LSTC License manager and delete all the relevant files from your computer and then re-install it again and set up the LS-DYNA license again?
I'm hoping it will fix the issue. Please keep me posted.
Thanks,
Pedram

Given that there is no automated way to removed, I manually deleted the LSTC service, and deleted the install directory for LS-DYNA. I'm not sure if there is anything else beyond that (registry entries, etc) which should be removed as well.
I've attempted fresh installs, but meet with the same error with every attempt to launch the GUI. I've even tried updating the Visual c++ distributable to most current version with no impact.

Hi,
Since the error is from GUI exe (lstclmui.exe), it is suggested generating the server info file using the engine exe. Please open a command terminal and run the following command to generate server info: .\lstclm.exe info
This command will dump the info file needed to generate a new license file. This is a workaround. The assertion error is a windows issue, for which there might not be a solution at this point. It is not necessary to use the GUI; everything can be done using commands through the terminal.
I hope it works.
Thanks,
Pedram

the lstclm.exe won't run because it relies on the service running, and the service won't run without the proper server_data file.
Should i not instead run the gmid.exe command????......that looks like it generates the corresponding server_info file

Hi,
Yes, please copy the output to a text file and replace the word "MACHINE" with "SERVER" and send it to Ansys and mention that it should be a network license.
Thanks,
Pedram
