Here are the following steps we took:

      1.      Launch ANSYS 2019 R2 > Workbench

      2.      In the left column (i.e. under the Toolbox Tab), drag the Static Structural icon on to the Project Schematic Space.

      3.      Right Mouse Button click on Geometry>Import Geometry>Browse to a file.

      4.      Double click on the Model. This will launch ANSYS SpaceClaim.  This will show an error indicating it cant find the license, but eventually it opens up ANSYS SpaceClaim

      5.      Here is the big problem.  Double click on Setup. This hangs up the launch of ANSYS Mechanical.

      Moving this to Systems forum.

What is your hardware configuration? Does it match or exceed the following requirements:

      Minimum Hardware Requirements:

      • Processor(s): Workstation class

      • 4 GB RAM

      • 25 GB hard drive space

      • Computer must have a physical "C" drive present

      • Graphics card and driver: Professional workstation class 3-D OpenGL-capable

Do you have your drivers (specifically for graphics card) upgraded to latest?

Mechanical opens when launched independently of Workbench though (Start > Ansys 2019 R2 > Mechancial APDL 2019 R2 and Mechanical APDL Product Launcher).

      The computer specs are:

      Intel Core i5

      8 GB RAM

500 GB HD with 288 GB free

      C drive exist

Microsoft basic display adapter - if this is the culprit, what can be done?  It's an Intel HD 4000 graphics card and Intel doesn't appear to have drivers for it for Windows 10.

MAPDL and Mechanical are two different products. Mechanical being more graphics intensive.

Intel download center seems to have the drivers for windows 10.

But given that it is an integrated graphics card and not a dedicated one, I am not sure how much that will help, but should be worth a try.

For the Intel HD 4000 driver, when downloaded and attempted to install, it says it is not compatible with the OS (Windows 10 1806).

Also tried Workbench with the aforementioned steps on another computer which has an Intel HD graphics 530 and getting the same result - Mechanical opens but nothing else happens.

Workbench applications require OpenGL graphics - we support the nVidia Quadro and AMD Fire Pro line of cards typically.  See the hardware requirements here (under 'System & Browser Requirements):  https://www.ansys.com/academic/free-student-products
