SubscriberHello, I need to help with the dimension and their changes, since it seems I am not able to change the dimension of length in the picture I show you! And of course I know how to get the dimension with the star, but it does not work and I try all possible lengths, but it does not allow me to change anything at all. And this is absolutely critical and I am trying to do with this for one month and nothing!!! Absolutely poor!
Â
Please have a look at the picture and you will see what the problem is and tell me! Thanks.Â

Forum ModeratorCan you Pull the face that forms that feature? You'll need to work out how far to get the new diameter (radius).Â
-
June 17, 2019 at 1:32 pm
Georgiro1
SubscriberThe depth is less than L=<90 mm, but what do you mean by pull - I have no idea. So basically I just in general need to change the diamater well, but it does not work and I can see the start to change it, but it does not work. So what shall I be doing in this way and I can spend hours and hours to change it and it does not work at all! This is the problem. Thanks

Rob
Forum ModeratorIt's a SpaceClaim function  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BY5KU-hOaAU  which you need to alter the geometry. Those dimensions look like a CAD dimension overlay, not what I'd expect to just type a new number into.Â
-
June 17, 2019 at 5:33 pm
Georgiro1
SubscriberSo as I said this before, the whole problem is to make the difference of the size, so I had e. g. length of xx mm and need to change it to something different, however it is not possible to change it at all and I am looking the the star dimension and it is not possible to change it. So are you able to do it this way?
And obviously I can do an exaple and change it and tell me how do you have to do it! It si absolutely not possible to change it at all!!!
Â
And also is the need to give you a fine, but I do not know how to give you my file, so that you can do certain changes to do I would like to change them!
Thanks

SubscriberI opened the attachment and found there is no solid body, just a collection of surface bodies.
I suggest you start over with a new file. As you make each sketch of a profile to Pull into a solid, keep checking the Structure tab to make sure you maintain a solid body.

So here I have managed to change the item from surface to the volume, however I have a huge problem to change the distance of the small holes of the value 27,2 mm and I need to change it to the value of 31,00 mm and I know how to have it with the star, but still it is impossible to change it. So do you know what is the problem in this case and of course in general! Thanks, because I am a bit confused.

Rob
Forum ModeratorOK, I assume you're trying to change the dimension and not the actual geometry. That won't work: the dimensions are an annotation rather than a controlling feature. You need to use pull etc (as in the videos) on the volume to change the sizes.Â
It may help to untick the "Annotation Plane" in the tree so you're not getting confused by the labels. Â
As an aside, please can you post the first 10-15 lines of the licence file: I wonder if there's a feature causing some of the issues (there are several "flavours" of SpaceClaim licence).Â

-

SubscriberIf you added a Component, and that component is Active (name is Bold in Outline), then you can't edit solids in other components. [edit made]
You have to click on the Component that has the solid below it and Make Active.

peteroznewman
SubscriberI left the word bold out of the previous post, which is now corrected.
Here is the outline of the file you attached above, let's concentrate on that.
In this outline, there is only the file name at the top, and it is in bold.
The solid body is circled. As I said above, the surfaces lower down can get in the way.
If you right mouse button on the solid, the popup menu shows Hide Others.
It's important to hide others in order to do Move operations on faces of the solid. Concentrate on moving the holes according to the video without complicating it with additional components. Download the file attached to this post and follow the steps in the video. You will be successful.
If you never add components to a file, then the information I provided above is irrelevant to you. In that case, just forget about that. But if you have questions about components, open a New Discussion, as I have to click Show More Posts button twice to get down this far.
-
July 20, 2019 at 3:22 pm
Georgiro1
SubscriberSo because I may not fully understand you, can you give me an example that is showing the problem you are mentioning. i. e. Bold outline and be active and not to edit solids in other components. The point is that I do not have any other components there. So I should not have a problem to make the solid active...interesting...but still having problems...
-
July 20, 2019 at 5:50 pm
peteroznewman
SubscriberHere is an example with two components and each component has solids under it. See Component 2 is bold, that means that is the Active Component.
I was suggesting that to edit the Target Solid under Component1, it would be helpful to make Component1 Active first, before attempting to move faces on the Target Solid.
If you follow exactly what was done in the video, you should have no problems.
-
July 20, 2019 at 6:34 pm

SubscriberNow it is clear to me and I understand it well, however when I have a look at my component, there is only one component and for this reason I still have a problem to change lengths of the holes that you can see above, i. e. at the distance 27.2 mm. This just does not help me, because I do not have 2 components there and it is not possible to change the distance and I cannot understand in what way shall I change it? Thanks for your ideas.

SubscriberAs shown in the video, if you have only one solid visible, and all other objects are not visible, you can click on the Move tool, click on the face of the hole, and drag one of the arrows on the triad to move the hole in that direction by an amount you can type in. The video shows how to align the triad with a curve that is visible.

SubscriberGood progress. The next thing to do when you have the hole face selected and the move triad visible and pointing in the right direction is to click on the green axis of the triad and drag it to the left. That will begin moving the hole in the right direction to increase the dimension. A popup box with the move distance will appear. The difference between the dimension you want 31 and the dimension you have 27.2 is 3.8 so you type 3.8 in the dialog and hit enter and the hole will now be at 31 mm. That is what I did in the video.
Some people have figured out how to use the measure tool while moving faces, and learned how to measure the distance to the other hole, then they can type in 31 instead of 3.8 but I haven't figured out how to use the measure tool while moving faces.

SubscriberClick on the face of the hole on the left that is wrong. Hit F on the keyboard, which is Fill and the hole will be gone. If that hole has a chamfer, you have to first pick the face of the chamfer and hit F, then do the hole.
Now start a sketch on the top and get the circle tool, and start a new hole at the intersection of the radial construction line and circle.
