Hi,
I am attempting to create a tapered transition between a circular waveguide and a rectangular waveguide. I have been previously successful in HFSS 2020 and 2022, but in the 2023 version my process fails and models I created in older versions do not import correctly.
My steps:
- Create cylinder of radius 5.78 mm and box with width and height corresponding to WR42 waveguide dimensions, with propagation direction along the z axis.
- Move box along z axis so that there is 50 mm space between end of cylindrical waveguide and start of rectangular waveguide.
- Select inner faces of the circular and rectangular waveguide, right click > Edit > Surface > Create Object From Face
- Select both sheet objects created in step 3, right click > Edit > Surface > Connect
In HFSS 2020, this produces the a model similar to this:
In HFSS 2023, step 4 fails and throws several errors.
If anyone could please direct me on how to address this issue, help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for reaching out to the Ansys Learning Forum, your patience on this issue is much appreciated.
Please note that there is a kernel change in AEDT geometry modeling starting from 23R1 and later versions. That would be the reason for not being able to replicate the geometry creation steps.Â
It is recommended to specify the number of segments for the cylindrical objects and then you would be able to follow the same procedure as before. The nominal value would be 50 segments. You can also use a higher number of segments but that would result in a bigger mesh.

Thank you for the response Praneeth. Specifying the cylinders to have 50 segments allowed me to do the connect operation.
