SubscriberHello,
I am trying to model a process which will require a large deformation in multiple steps. This usually results in convergence failure due to element distortion. I can use NLAD to overcome this, but NLAD is not compatible with most other conditions that I need to use such as contact status controller, activating/deactivating steps, element birth and death, etc. So, I want to manually rezone during a restart. I can't seem to find any information on that. Does anyone know if that is possible and how to do it?

Ansys EmployeePlease see the following Ansys help section: Mechanical APDL -> Nonlinear Adaptivity -> Analysis Guide -> Chapter 6 Rezoning.

SubscriberHow do I access the APDL User guide?

Ansys Employeewell it's part of the standard Ansys Help - how do you access the help now? Do you have it installed locally? Or perhaps you are using an Academic license and the system admin has it installed on some school system that you can access...something else?

Thanks for replying. The Help documentation that seems to be available on the student version of ANSYS is the html ported version seen here. I have seen some prior theory manuals and help documents which had chapters, but this most current html version does not have that. If I search for 'Nonlinear Adaptivity' there are a mountain of results that just contain those words. I cant really find exactly what I'm looking for this way. Manual rezoning as a search criteria has no results.

Ansys EmployeeAh ok good. That is the Ansys Workbench Help and not the Mechanical APDL help...but it's close. Select the Home in the upper right. That should take you to a list of Product/Help. Go to the "M" section and find Mechanical APDL...then from there the path I gave earlier.

SubscriberThanks, I got it now. If I am understanding this correctly, to implement this process in Mechanical, I need to issue a Command in my Solution branch. It's a bit cumbersome to use but I guess I will try to get it working.

Ansys EmployeeI'd first try an simple example in Mechanical APDL. Then try to implement that in WB Mechanical. The help has few MAPDL examples to get you started. Mike
